My first attempt at digital watercolours. I don't think it's too bad for a first try.

What do we have here then? This is the site of Karl Toon, a fictitious character but who is actually me. Or am I him? I can never remember. Anyway, we, I, created this blog to be a bit of everything to do with cartooning, animation, drawing, and art in general, whatever takes my fancy at any particular moment. Take a peek. You may find something you enjoy. I try to make it as original and useful as I can. Do come back and visit often. Thanks for visiting.

This was more a continuation as I was concentrating on the wall cupboards in the background. Created in Clip Studio Paint.
This wasn't as simple to draw as the final image looks.

This was really just a test of using the perspective rulers in Clip Studio Paint.

Day 50 - Working on ideas
Some days it isn't all just about drawing nice pictures. These little sketches are just working out some ideas on paper.
Day 49 - Head Practice
Following along to the exercises at Brad's Art School, How to Draw Heads Lesson 3.

Day 47 - Second character rough sketch
I still need to return to the previous character for refinement, but I want to get the draft sketches of all the characters completed first. Refinement will be easier when I have all the characters thought out.

Day 46 - Bird's Eye View added
I'm still new at drawing characters in perspective. Actually, this is my first attempt really, and whilst it hasn't come out too bad, I think I need to recreate this character to get perspective correct. This will be the end of this character for the moment as I move onto practising with the second character.
Worked on the worm's eye front facing view today, with the hands being a particular challenge.
I need to create some characters from different angles for an animation I'm going to be creating so I am just putting some ideas together for the characters. This is the initial sketch of the first character that I will be developing along with some others over the next few days and weeks.
Day 42 - Worms eye view of a figure
My first attempt at the worms eye view of a figure following along to How to Draw Characters in Worm's Eye View | Drawing Lesson 8 by Megamaster on Youtube.
Day 41 - My first birds eye view perspective sketch
My first attempt at sketching a figure in birds eye view perspective sketch , following along to the tutorial How to Draw Characters in Bird's Eye View | Drawing Lesson 7 by Megamaster on Youtube.
Day 40 - Drawing in Perspective
Today, I needed to begin to learn how to draw figures in perspective so as a starting point followed the tutorial How to Draw The Figure in Perspective Pt 1 | Drawing Lesson 6 by megamaster on Youtube.
Day 38 - Basic Body Construction
I used the Draw With Jazza Character Creation book for this basic body construction. Whilst it isn't yet finished, it is easy to see how this method enables easy creation of the basic body. The stick figure construction will certainly come in handy when animating.
Day 36
I have taken the feet sketches from yesterday and inked and flatted them. The feet practice is over for now, so I don't think I will be adding shade and highlights to these.
Day 35
I have been busy animating today but found a little time to try out some feet. I think I need more practise!
Day 32 - Creating a character for animation
This is just the beginning of one of the characters for use in an animation for entry into a competition later this month.
Day 31 - Sheriff Steve
Sheriff Steve says, "Howdy Partner! Have you seen my six shooters anywhere?"
Well, I don't think the Sheriff's colouring, shading and highlighting came out too bad. I experimented with the selection tool and airbrush for the shading and highlighting, and I think with practise this technique might prove quite useful.
Day 31
And, we have Doug the Wizard; inked, flatted, shaded and highlighted. I don't think he looks too bad at all.
All three characters from the Ultimate Beginners Cartooning Course Pt 1: Characters on Udemy now inked.
Sheriff Steve is a character created from the Udemy course Ultimate Beginners Cartooning Course pt 1: Characters. This is at the outlining stage and checking out the silhouette.
Day 28
The last lesson in the Udemy course How to Draw Cute Cartoon Characters is the creation of the dog kawaii character. As mentioned previously, the course is pretty basic and simplistic, but sometimes that is what we need to concentrate on the basics without getting distracted by the complicated stuff. The course leaves you feeling as though you have accomplished but want to learn more. Highly recommended.
Day 27
Kawaii style cat, the penultimate lesson in the Udemy course How to Draw Cute Cartoon Characters. Only the Kawaii style dog left to do, then it's experiment with my own characters and drawings.
